The last month has given us so many reasons to celebrate here in 2H! Monday, Feb. 4th, marked our 100th day together as a second grade class. It's hard to believe they have less than eighty days left before they are THIRD graders! As I always tell our class, time sure flies when you're having fun!
Our math workshop had us seeing just how many things we could do in 100 seconds (which your mathematicians quickly discovered was 1 minute 40 seconds!) We set the timer and we were off!

Later in the day, as a fun 100th day challenge, the owls worked together to complete some collaborative "100 Post-it Posters!" After calculating the math (including myself, Mrs. Horan and Ms. Atlee, we would need to add 5 post-its to each poster in order to reach 100), we set off in coming up with 100 places we'd like to travel, 100 books we love, 100 acts of kindness, and 100 things to do before we're 100 years old! After stretching our thinking, we got the job done! Everyone had a blast reading all of the post-its when we were through!
For a final 100th day celebration, students tackled a building challenge. Using 100 of a given material, what could you and your group create?
As if the 100th day excitement wasn't enough celebrating this month, the all time highlight was definitely our celebration of Valentine's Day. We were reminded that Valentine's Day is about being with the people you love and showing kindness to others, and we certainly had a great day together!
Our math workshop brought us on a Mystery Science Adventure to explore: Why can't planes fly to outerspace? After creating v-shaped wings for our planes, we were ready to launch and measure their flight path.
With an early release on our hands, the end of the day arrived quickly and it was time for our holiday celebration. Our adorable Owl Bags were ready to be filled! Every student had a BLAST delivering their valentines and had an even more terrific time opening and reading their special cards!

I hope you and your family had a very happy, loving Valentine's Day!
We ended our fabulous month in style after celebrating Read Across America Week! I think it's safe to say, our Owl class loves reading just as much as Dr. Seuss himself!! We enjoyed a fun week before vacation reading Dr. Seuss stories, creating some writing pieces based on those stories, and enjoying SMS "spirit" week costumes!
Thank you Dr. Seuss for all your wonderful stories! You have instilled a love for reading in each and everyone of us!!
