2AA Hopes, Dreams, and Being Great Citizens!

What a wonderful, first week of school we've had!!
To set ourselves up for success, we began our year by thinking long and hard about our hopes and dreams for second grade. We read the story A Chair for My Mother by Vera Williams in order to think deeply about our goals. We learned that in order to make our hopes and dreams come true, we need to have a plan on how we're going to get there! We also learned that we often need help in reaching our goals and that we can help each other in reaching our goals. Our beautiful rainbow will be a perfect reminder of our hopes and dreams throughout the school year. Check out some of our goals more closely below!

After creating our goals, we knew we needed to establish a community of respectful, safe learners. We read Scholastic's Weekly Reader which focused on being a good citizen (as subscribers to Scholastic News, you have access to this great resource at home! Just visit: Scholastic News 2, click 'student sign-in' and enter: owls2aa). After playing a game show quiz to test their knowledge of good citizenship qualities, we then drafted our class "rules". Each student "pledged" to be an upstanding citizen by adding their hand to our class chart. I must say, we have an excellent group of second grade citizens!

Have a great, long weekend!
