WAX MUSEUM APPROACHING!

You're Invited to Join Us for our Fairy Tale Wax Museum!
When: Friday, April 8th
Where: The Owl Class
Time: 9:00-9:45 am

For the past month,  your second graders have been working feverishly as they prepare for the upcoming wax museum. They've been doing an excellent job bringing fairy tales to life by stepping into their character's shoes, reading with expression, and using their bodies to act out as they read. It's been quite fun to watch :)
Acting out dialogue from The Three Little Pigs.
Playing role of The Big, Bad Wolf and the Pig with our reading partners.
Reader's Theater has been a great way to practice rehearsing lines and portraying different characters. We had fun reading fun scripts such as Jack and the Giant Sunflower, The Silly Billy Goats Gruff, and The Three Little Elephants
A highlight from this unit has, without a doubt, been reading our exciting read aloud: The Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell. In the story, twins Alex and Conner Bailey fall into a storybook their grandmother gave them for their twelfth birthday, bringing them to a world called "The Land of Stories." This world, they quickly learn, is home to all of their favorite (and not so favorite!) fairy tale characters.

Taking 2R and 2D's lead, last week we had a BLAST creating a life-size map to help us follow Alex and Conner on their adventure.
All of this great work will be on display and available for viewing during Friday's wax museum.
In addition to studying numerous fairy tale stories, bringing our characters to life, and completing other cross-curricular projects,  another major part of this project has involved creating a life-size poster of our characters to hang behind our "wax figures". This week, we had a special guest (Mrs. Healey's sister!) come in to help us draw and paint these posters to bring our museum to life.
On Friday, look forward to seeing these fabulous, famous characters on display:
