"And They All Lived Happily Ever After"

The Second Annual Second Grade Fairy Tale Wax Museum was a HUGE success!! It's been so rewarding watching these Owl students work incredibly hard throughout this unit and it was so nice to see it all come together in this exciting culminating event. When they entered our classroom, I couldn't believe my eyes!
Naturally, our morning greeting had us shaking hands with the new characters in our classroom!
Take a look at our whole fairy tale cast of characters! (The biggest THANK YOU goes out to all of YOU for helping put together these marvelous costumes. Everyone truly looked GREAT!)

After greetings were complete, it was time to take their positions, open the doors to our Wax Museum, and bring these characters to life!

Our museum had SO many visitors---the performers kept very busy! I received many compliments regarding the creativity with their costumes, the art capabilities shown in their posters, and how incredibly knowledgeable they were about the characters they represented. Way to go, Owls!
We had visits from parents, grandparents, siblings friends, friends' parents, SMS students and their classroom teachers, related arts teachers, and other SMS staff. It was a day to remember by all for sure.
And while they didn't make an appearance at our Wax Museum, we did have a special visit from The Queen of Make Believe and Father Folk Tale during our rehearsal with our 5H reading buddies!
This great event wraps  up our unit on fairy tales. Your children (along with me!) had a great time reading fairy tales, writing fairy tale reviews, participating in engineering challenges helping fairy tale characters solve a problem, comparing and contrasting stories, acting out scenes, growing their very own bean stalks---the list is truly endless. I think I speak honestly on their behalf when we say, we didn't want it to end! A lot of their hard work was on display at the Wax Museum. Take a look at some of the exhibits in case you missed them!
* Our READbox fairy tale book reviews!
*Character Scrapbooks:
*Maps to help guide readers through each story:
*Venn Diagram Posters:
After our Wax Museum, we enjoyed finishing our AMAZING read aloud, The Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell. This story was SUCH a hit in our class and I had such a fun time reading it with them. While this story is far above a second grade reading level, it does make a great family read aloud (with some censorship when reading aloud :) ) If interested, the second book in this series is available through the Scholastic Book Order (April orders due Friday, 4/15).
Again, I want to send a GIGANTIC "THANK YOU" to all of the fantastic family members who helped create these awesome costumes, who helped their child rehearse their lines, and who visited our Wax Museum. It is only through your continued help and support that we can continue to make learning fun and engaging!
Have a great weekend!
