"And They All Lived Happily Ever After!"

The Third Annual Second Grade Fairy Tale Wax Museum was a HUGE success!! It's been so rewarding watching these Owl students work incredibly hard throughout this unit and it was so nice to see it all come together in this exciting culminating event. When they entered our classroom, I couldn't believe my eyes!

Naturally, our morning greeting had us shaking hands with the new characters in our classroom!
Take a look at our whole fairy tale cast of characters! (The biggest THANK YOU goes out to all of YOU for helping put together these marvelous costumes. Everyone truly looked GREAT!)

The main stars of Peter Pan!
The rest of our fabulous performers representing a variety of stories:
After greetings were complete, it was time to take their positions, open the doors to our Wax Museum, and bring these characters to life!

Our museum had SO many visitors---these characters were kept very busy! I received many compliments regarding the creativity with their costumes, the art capabilities shown in their posters, and how incredibly knowledgeable they were about the characters they represented! Way to go, owls!
We had visits from parents, grandparents, siblings, friends' parents, first graders and their teachers, third, fourth, and fifth graders and their teachers, other second grade fairy tale characters, other building staff members, and our fifth grade reading buddies. It was a day to remember by all for sure!
This great event wraps up our unit on fairy tales. Your children (along with me!) had a great time reading fairy tales, writing fairy tale poems, partaking in S.T.E.M related challenges with each second grade teacher, growing their very own bean stalks---the list is truly endless. I think I speak honestly on their behalf when we say, we didn't want it to end! Check out some of the fun we had leading up to this unit!
Our beanstalks are on their way up to the castle!
Mrs. Mocny translating the Polish tale of Krawiec Niteczka!

All of this fantastic learning led up to the most fantastic culminating event. Again, I want to send a GIGANTIC "THANK YOU" to all of the fantastic family members who helped create these awesome costumes, who helped their child rehearse their lines, and who visited our Wax Museum. It is only through your continued help and support that we can continue to make learning fun and engaging! It was truly a magical day and one they will remember for a very long time. Thank you!!
While our fairy tale unit has come to an end, we will still enjoy finishing our AMAZING read aloud, The Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell. This story is SUCH a hit in our class and I am having such a fun time reading it with them. While this story is far above a second grade reading level, it does make a great family read aloud (with some censorship when reading aloud :) ) If interested, the second book in this series is available through the Scholastic Book Order (April orders due Thursday, 4/13).

Have a great week!
